I decided to 3D print the cartridge shell while prototyping. Given the gains of being able to rapidly iterate the design with the quick turn around times offered by 3D printing, the flexibility it offers in one off customization (shape, colour, etc.), the way that it simplifies the procurement of materials, and leverages local facilities and equipment in lieu of overseas vendors, the benefits of 3D printing over customizing generic stock are many. 3D printing id clearly the right choice for the GB Productivity Suite. Yesterday was filled by the production of art assets and UI mock ups, and the creation of promotional materials. While I'm eager to roll up my sleeves and get coding I know that this is the moment for communication and promotion. Rather than put the cart before the horse I'll take care of these tasks to the best of my ability now so I can focus on making the best software I can when the time for that task comes. Developing this solution would take the GB Productivity Suite far beyond the original scope of the project and draw on skills currently not within the development team. The cost of developing this solution would far overshadow every other feature combined. For these reasons we have elected to focus on making the original offering the best it can be rather than pursue this exciting but overly ambitious idea.
